Volunteers are helping local veterans prepare for the coming winter.

Goodwill is holding its 9th annual Stand Down for Homeless Vets.

“I know that a lot of our veterans count on it.” Says Johanna Wagner, the Senior Program Manager for Vets.

Every year, hundreds of homeless veterans in Central Illinois have to deal with the harsh realities of winter weather. Saturday October 7th, volunteers gathered at Dozer park to help prepare them.

Wagner says, “It’s a great place for our veterans to come and get all of the resources, and gather all the information they need as they’re trying to reintegrate, or just trying to survive on the streets.”

Goodwill is holding its 9th annual Stand Down for homeless Vets. The event is prepared to help more than 200 veterans from central Illinois.
