‘Veteran Stand Down’ event aims to support local veterans and families

Area businesses and veteran’s service organizations held an annual event with the goal of supporting local veterans and their families.

The Veterans Stand Down event was held at the VFW on Minnesota Avenue where several activities were held and a meal was served to veterans.

The long line of veterans at the event showed it was a very important day.

“Just a day to say ‘thank you’ for all that they’ve done. That’s how I see today, is to stand down, this is a stand-up for me,” Carlos Lee, a homeless veteran representative, said. “Stand up and be recognized for all that’s been done. For me this is a really special day.”
