Free cuts for veterans


While rain reduced the turnout at Tuesday’s Rochester farmers market, it didn’t put a damper on the attendance or enthusiasm at a station providing free haircuts for area veterans.

During the first hour and a half of the market, at least 15 veterans — about one-fifth of the weekly market’s attendees on Tuesday — got trims, buzzes and even mustache cuts courtesy of seven busy Tresses Hair Salon stylists who donated their time for the cause.

“Today is just so awesome,” said Glenn Rabideau, a Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam and received a half-inch trim Tuesday.

September is Veterans Month in Strafford County, and Tuesday’s free cuts coincided with the Rochester farmers market’s efforts to give back to area veterans this month.
