New Bern event helps make life little easier for veterans

Craven County – An annual local event is helping veterans connect with resources to help make their life a little easier.

Something as simple as a haircut connects neighbors who share the bond of serving their country. Michael Wilder is just one of the dozens of veterans who attended this year’s Veterans Stand Down in New Bern.

“Veterans, we can see each other, some people we haven’t seen in a while and talk about different things,” Wilder said.

Organizers started the program to help homeless veterans or veterans at risk of being homeless in Craven, Pamlico, Jones and Carteret counties.
