Woman walks across country for nearly 9 years to help veterans, stops in Polk

Ohio woman has covered 16 states and 5,460 miles, but intends to walk across the entire continental U.S.

Ten years ago, Kim Denmark owned her own temp agency near Dayton, Ohio. She was selfish, arrogant and without joy.

“And then God,” she said.

For nearly nine years now, Denmark, 55, has been walking across the country. Her goal is to help others and to raise awareness for the needs of America’s veterans.

“This is something special that was laid on my heart,” she said. “It’s just loving my country and loving my people.”
