State Senate recognizes Word War II nurses as veterans

The state Senate last week passed a resolution that recognizes women in the Cadet Nurse Corps. during World War II as veterans and urges Congress to do the same.

“Today we value and appreciate the women who serve in our military,” said state Sen. Ed Gomes, D-Bridgeport and vice-chair of the Veteran Affairs Committee.

“Unfortunately, at the time these women served, that was not the case, and so they never received the same acknowledgments as their male counterparts,” Gomes said. “It’s great to finally see these brave women get the recognition they deserve for courageously serving our country so many years ago. Their contributions will not be forgotten.”
