Tennessee veterans watch property tax relief bills closely

Ron Bottomley and a handful of his fellow veterans who were on hand at the legislature on Tuesday are frustrated about the back and forth they’ve had with lawmakers in recent weeks.

“We are very upset,” the Nashville-based U.S. Navy veteran said in the afternoon, shortly after the House Local Government subcommittee approved a bill that seeks to provide additional property tax relief for eligible disabled veterans and the elderly.

After the subcommittee’s action, Bottomley had a brief conversation with Rep. Joe Pitts, D-Clarksville, who along with several of his House colleagues paid tribute to the group of veterans present in the small committee room as they took up four property tax relief bills that have frequently been mentioned in recent days.
