Veterans react to NH VA problems

It is no secret that the VA medical system has been surrounded by controversy, from long wait times at facilities across the country to the most recent allegations of poor patient conditions in Manchester. So we wanted to speak directly with veterans who receive the care.

“To see it not run properly, it is very discouraging,” said Peter St. Pierre, an Army veteran from Lebanon, New Hampshire.

“It’s sad,” said Wendell McMillan, a Navy veteran from White River Junction.

Both McMillan and St. Pierre served their country. The veterans get checkups at the VA Medical Center in White River Junction and both are pleased with the care. But as the most recent scandal in Manchester shows, quality of care in the VA system remains a problem.

“I feel bad because these veterans have earned the right for this care,” St. Pierre said.
